Muju County is launching a 'Native English Video Call Support Program' for elementary and middle school students in the region. In order to bridge the educational gap between regions and foster global talent, the county will fully support the tuition fees for 1:1 video call English lessons with native English instructors.
The recruitment will include 20 priority applicants and 100 general applicants, totaling 120 students, and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the 27th. Priority applicants include students from basic living allowance households, individuals with disabilities, multicultural families, and families with two or more children.
Applications will be accepted online through the Muju County's video call English website. Selected students will be able to take customized 1:1 video call English lessons 2-3 times a week for 20-30 minutes each session from March to July using a computer or mobile device.
Choi Sung, head of the Population Vitality and Lifelong Education Team at Muju County Office, stated, "Since its inception in 2017, the native English video call program has seen participation from over 1,300 individuals, helping to improve English proficiency and confidence." He added, "This program will reduce the financial burden on parents for education expenses and help develop global competencies."
Furthermore, Muju County plans to invest over 24 billion won in student education support this year, including scholarships, admission to prestigious military academies, support for online courses, as well as initiatives such as operating educational development special zones, after-school and special talent education, and global history and culture exploration programs.
