The 'Gochang Urban Ecological Axis Restoration Project' promoted by Jeollabuk Special Self-Governing Province and Gochang County in the Deoksan area of Gochang-eup has recently been completed, creating a harmonious ecological space in the city center with nature.
This project, which started in 2021, invested a total of 11.7 billion won to restore approximately 90,000 square meters of damaged urban natural park areas and surrounding ecological axes. It contributed to the restoration of the ecosystem balance by creating habitats for endangered species such as the great dragonfly, yellow-billed magpie, and thistle.
In particular, by installing an ecological corridor to secure wildlife corridors, it connects fragmented ecosystems, leading to an increase in biodiversity and the creation of a healthy natural environment.
The restored ecological space will be utilized as a healing space in the city center for relaxation and ecological education, and is expected to contribute to the activation of local ecological tourism by linking with attractions such as Moyang Fortress, Nature Plaza, Nodong Reservoir, and Ecological Trails.
Jeollabuk Province plans to expand ecological restoration projects to other regions in the province based on this project. Currently, restoration is also underway in areas such as Mokcheon Pocheon-Hamla in Iksan City and Hyanggyo Park-Gwangchicheon in Namwon City.
Han Sun-ok, Head of the Carbon Neutrality Policy Division in Jeollabuk Province, stated, "The Gochang restoration project is a model case of ecosystem restoration and utilization," and expressed, "We will continue to strive for the creation of a sustainable ecological environment where nature and people coexist."
