Gunsan University Holds Retirement Ceremony for Professors and Government Awards

National Gunsan University held a government commendation ceremony on the 19th to celebrate the second chapter in the lives of 11 retiring professors. The event was attended by around 100 family members and acquaintances who watched commemorative videos, enjoyed a congratulatory banquet, and performances, reflecting on the hard work of the retiring professors.

The professors who retired this time include Kwak Byeong-seon (Department of Law, Public Administration, and Police Science), Choi Yeon-seong (Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence), Kim Hyeon-cheol (Department of Venture Entrepreneurship), Park Gyeong-woo (Department of Fine Arts), Yoo Gyeong-suk (Department of Clothing Studies), Oh Seok-hyeong (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Choi Sang-hoon (Department of Marine Life Medicine), Kim Jang-kwon (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Cho Hyeon-cheol (Department of Education), Jeong Gyeong-taek (Department of Electronic Engineering), and Kim Gyeong-su (Department of Civil Engineering).

In particular, Professor Kwak Byeong-seon served as the 8th president of the university, contributing to the development of the university through fostering creative talents and establishing a foundation for convergence education, for which he received the Chungjo Geunjeong Medal. Professor Choi Yeon-seong contributed to the establishment of an industry-academia cooperation base and support for startups, while Professor Kim Hyeon-cheol received the Okjo Geunjeong Medal for his efforts in promoting entrepreneurship education and job creation.

Professor Park Gyeong-woo worked as the dean of the College of Arts, focusing on art education and connecting with local culture, and Professor Cho Hyeon-cheol was awarded the Hongjo Geunjeong Medal for his contribution to training specialized personnel in counseling psychology and academic activities.

Furthermore, Professor Oh Seok-hyeong received the Okjo Geunjeong Medal for introducing an engineering accreditation system and operating the Automotive Parts Innovation Center, while Professor Choi Sang-hoon was honored with the Geunjeong Award for his research in marine technology and contributions to local industries. Professors Kim Jang-kwon and Yoo Gyeong-suk each received a Presidential Commendation for their educational and research contributions in the fields of mechanical engineering and clothing, respectively.

During the event, President Lee Jang-ho expressed his deep gratitude for the dedication and passion of the retiring professors, stating, "I will continue their legacy and strive even harder for the development of education and research."
