A day before the Constitutional Court's ruling on the impeachment trial of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, on the 3rd, civic organizations in the Jeonbuk region strongly urged for Yoon's removal from office.
The 'Jeonbuk Local Party' issued a statement on that day, stating, "Yoon Suk-yeol attempted to dissolve the National Assembly by abusing his constitutional authority and conspired to suspend the basic rights of the people under the pretext of martial law, making him a traitor plotting rebellion," and emphasized that "the Constitutional Court must unanimously impeach Yoon Suk-yeol."
The Joint Action Committee particularly pointed out the fact that former President Yoon had plotted a martial law scenario with the military leadership, defining it as an "attempted rebellion to overthrow the democratic social order and destroy the constitutional order." They highlighted that the martial law decree included provisions for the control of the National Assembly and the Election Commission, as well as censorship of the press, internet, and social media, asserting that it was a guidebook for a coup attempt that shook the foundation of democracy.
Furthermore, strong criticism was raised regarding the calculation of the period of detention in 'hours' rather than 'days' during the process of releasing former President Yoon. The Joint Action Committee criticized it as an "unprecedented ruling that undermines legal stability and judicial trust," stating that "the foundation of judicial justice has collapsed."
Additionally, the 'Jeonbuk Labor Solidarity from Below' also issued a separate statement, asserting that "the Constitutional Court must naturally impeach Yoon Suk-yeol," and pointed out that "the reality of someone who sought to subvert the constitutional order and control society with a gun still maintaining the status of a president is no longer tolerable."
The Labor Solidarity described the series of events that unfolded after the attempted martial law on December 3 last year as a "rebellion crisis where abnormality becomes normal," emphasizing that "the failure to impeach the traitor while the law enforcement hesitates to arrest, the judiciary releases, and the prosecution willingly lets go has further exacerbated unconstitutional violence."
Both organizations unitedly stated, "Delayed justice is injustice," and urged the Constitutional Court to definitely pronounce the impeachment of former President Yoon in the impeachment trial on April 4.
