National Gunsan University's Department of Life Sciences graduate student Jung Mi-kyung and Nongsaengmyung Fusion Technology Center researcher Im Lan-young received the Excellent Presentation Paper Award and Future Ecologist Award, respectively, at the '2025 Korean Ecological Society Academic Conference' held at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) Science Culture Center from March 20th to 21st.
With the theme of 'Ecology in the Anthropocene Era,' the conference saw the participation of around 280 ecological researchers from across the country, presenting and discussing various research outcomes aimed at adapting to the climate crisis.
Student Jung Mi-kyung conducted a poster presentation on the topic of 'Comparison of Functional Characteristics of Leaves According to Aquatic Plant Lifestyles,' where she categorized aquatic plants by lifestyle and analyzed the morphological and chemical characteristics of leaves to provide fundamental data for understanding plant adaptation strategies and intra-cluster interactions, receiving excellent evaluations.
Researcher Im Lan-young, through the study 'Priority Setting of Wetland Restoration Sites Based on AHP and GIS Evaluation,' proposed spatial strategies to restore the functions of damaged ecosystems due to wetland loss and land use changes, earning recognition for her potential as a future ecologist.
The Department of Life Sciences at National Gunsan University operates specialized undergraduate and graduate programs in the field of agricultural and ecological industries, microdegrees, major certification programs, and provides various scholarship support to foster regionally talented individuals with an international perspective.
