Jeonju Cultural Foundation has been honored for the second consecutive year as the private entrusted organization for the purchase of works from the 'Jeonseung Craft Bank'.
Jeonju Cultural Foundation (CEO Choi Rak-gi) announced on the 3rd that it has been selected as the entrusted organization for the '2025 Jeonseung Craft Bank Heir Works Purchase Private Entrustment Operation' organized by the Cultural Heritage Administration for the second consecutive year, receiving government support of 790 million won.
The Jeonseung Craft Bank project is aimed at supporting the creative activities of traditional craft heirs and systematically preserving and utilizing their works. Through this project, Jeonju Cultural Foundation plans to reevaluate the value of traditional crafts in a modern context and explore various ways to practically utilize craftworks in daily life.
As part of this project, Jeonju Cultural Foundation will collect outstanding works from traditional craft heirs, safely transfer them to the Cultural Heritage Administration storage facility, and lend them free of charge to domestic and foreign museums, cultural centers, etc., to activate exhibitions and expand the reach of traditional crafts. Additionally, in 2025, they plan to promote the purchase of highly demanded heirloom craftworks and establish new procedures for the inspection and operation of musical instrument heirloom crafts for practical use.
Since 2016, the Cultural Heritage Administration has been operating the 'Jeonseung Craft Bank System' to improve the environment for the inheritance of national intangible heritage and promote the excellence of traditional crafts. Each year, they purchase around 130 works through fair expert evaluations from holders and inheritors of national intangible heritage, owning a total of 2,137 types and 3,940 works as of December 2024. They have lent 1,845 works to 67 institutions so far, expanding the utilization of traditional crafts through government agencies, companies, and overseas embassies.
An official from the Cultural Heritage Administration stated, "The works created by traditional craft heirs are not mere artifacts but precious heritage that embodies the identity of our culture," adding, "Through this project, it will boost the creative spirit of heirs and promote the utilization and popularization of heirloom crafts."
CEO Choi Rak-gi of Jeonju Cultural Foundation said, "We will create an environment where traditional craft heirs can focus on their creative activities and make efforts to actively utilize traditional crafts in modern society," and added, "We will establish various support and cooperation measures for the sustainable development of traditional crafts."
Jeonju Cultural Foundation plans to continue supporting the creative activities of traditional craft heirs and designing programs to expand the public and private utilization of heirloom crafts, aiming to establish Jeonju as a city where tradition and modernity coexist in the craft culture.
