The theater group "Little Commotion," known for their small-scale sound and movement performances, will be presenting the repertoire play "An Apple Eats a Person" as the first performance of the 2025 Regional Representative Arts Group Development Support Project. The performance will take place at the Somri Cultural Arts Center's small theater, starting at 7 p.m. on the 11th, followed by performances at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the 12th and 13th, totaling 5 performances.
Established in 1995, the "Little Commotion" theater group has been a cornerstone of theater development in Iksan, having staged over 600 performances of representative works such as "Grandma's Recipe" and "The Pongtang Incident" over the past 30 years. Additionally, they have actively participated in local festival-related performances, tourism, and marketing activities like the "Iksan Seodong Festival" and "Iksan Cultural Heritage Night." In 2025, they were selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism's "Regional Representative Arts Group Development Support Project" for two consecutive years, solidifying their position as Iksan's leading performing arts group.
The repertoire play "An Apple Eats a Person" is based on a play by playwright Lee Kangbaek from Jeollabuk-do, depicting bizarre events in an apple orchard to explore human existential issues. The play delves into themes of power, ideology, and the struggles of individuals against the unchanging essence of the world, presenting a satirical narrative that humorously critiques the irrational and negative aspects of reality.
CEO Lee Dohyun stated, "Through the play 'An Apple Eats a Person,' we aimed to remind the audience of the emptiness that comes from pursuing desires and the irony of having to live together despite that. By using the paradox that 'An apple eats a person' rather than 'A person eats an apple,' we wanted to refresh the idea that we can always be consumed by desires and power." Little Commotion plans to showcase the capabilities of regional representative arts groups throughout 2025 with original plays like "Junwang, Opening the Gate of Resentment" and the performing arts festival "Off-Stage Play Season 2."
