On April 4 at 11:22 a.m., the Constitutional Court reached a unanimous decision by all justices to dismiss former President Yoon Suk-yeol in his impeachment trial. In response, the Jeonbuk Local Party Committee (hereinafter referred to as “Jeonbuk Local Party”) issued a strong statement welcoming the ruling as a historic judgment and urgently called for Yoon's immediate arrest.

In a statement released the same day, the committee declared, “The Constitutional Court’s decision is a declaration that attempts to destroy constitutional order and trample on the basic rights of the people will not be tolerated. It marks a monumental moment of constitutional defense, reestablishing the principle of ‘the Constitution above power.’”

However, the committee emphasized that the dismissal alone is not enough. “Yoon Suk-yeol was the ringleader of a conspiracy to dissolve the National Assembly through martial law, incapacitate the National Election Commission, and control the media, internet, and social media. He must also be held criminally accountable as a criminal,” the statement said.

It continued, “Just as the Constitutional Court made a decision it can stand by in front of history, now the prosecution and the judiciary must immediately arrest and strictly indict Yoon Suk-yeol to realize equality before the law. If they fail to do so, the judiciary will once again face the wrath and judgment of the people.”

The Jeonbuk Local Party stated that the impeachment decision “is not the end, but the beginning.” They asserted, “The historical failure to properly purge pro-Japanese forces in the past has ultimately become the root cause of the current regression that threatens the foundation of democracy.”

Furthermore, they emphasized that “without thorough truth-finding and accountability for the political forces, media powers, and high-ranking officials who aided and abetted the rebellion, democracy in this land can never be firmly established.”

In conclusion, they stated, “Yoon Suk-yeol’s dismissal is merely the first step. A full-scale purge of those who cooperated with or supported the insurrection must now be carried out.”
