Wanju County is actively promoting policies to reevaluate the historical significance of the Battle of Ungchi during the Imjin War and utilize it as an educational and cultural resource.
On the 7th, the county announced plans to create an educational environment related to the Battle of Ungchi as part of the national heritage policy, develop promotional content, and expand programs to effectively convey the spirit of patriotism.
The Battle of Ungchi was a battle during the Imjin War where the Joseon rebels and government forces gathered their strength to halt the advance of the Japanese army towards Jeonju. In 2022, it was designated as a national historic site and recognized for its cultural heritage value.
Wanju County has incorporated the content of the Battle of Ungchi into its "History Education Outreach" and the development of local textbooks for third graders, and plans to operate experiential field visit programs through a national heritage agency grant project. Various promotional activities, including the production of a documentary on the Battle of Ungchi, will also be pursued.
Yoo Hee-tae, the mayor of Wanju County, stated, "The Battle of Ungchi is the spirit of Wanju and a history that all citizens should remember," adding, "I will continue to make efforts to create Wanju, where history and culture are alive and breathing."
