A special exhibition where you can explore the artistic worlds of two masters who changed the course of 20th-century modern art, Matisse and Dufy, will be held in Jeonju.
The Jeonju Cultural Foundation (Chairman Woo Beom-gi) will host the exhibition "Masters of 20th Century Art: Henri Matisse and Raoul Dufy" at the Palbok Art Factory, a representative multi-cultural arts space in Jeonju, from June 22 to July 27.
This exhibition highlights the footprint left by the two artists in the field of modern painting, focusing on their prints and art books that held significant positions in the flow of 20th-century modern art.
In particular, it draws attention to their bold spirit of experimentation, visual playfulness, and transcendent aesthetic values, providing an opportunity to experience the diverse spectrum of art.
The exhibition will showcase around 80 prints and art books, including Matisse's representative work 'Jazz Series,' and a total of 169 works including Dufy's delicate sense of color in prints and art books. Visitors will have the chance to encounter the living and breathing artistic worlds of the two artists in one place.
Henri Matisse, a figure who led modern art by founding Fauvism, was known as the "alchemist of lines" for his pursuit of simple yet bold lines and forms in drawing and printmaking. He showcased the essence of cubist expression using the cut-out technique and attempted pioneering expressions in art books and illustration works, opening up new artistic horizons.
Raoul Dufy, influenced by Matisse, participated in Fauvism and embodied the "joy of life" through bright and cheerful colors and the language of light shaping. His works are a feast of colors filled with freedom and joy, offering viewers both visual pleasure and emotional resonance.
Choi Rak-gi, the CEO of the Jeonju Cultural Foundation, expressed, "This exhibition is a precious opportunity to directly appreciate the works of the two masters who led the art history of the 20th century," and said, "We hope that the artistic worlds of Matisse and Dufy will deeply touch and comfort the citizens."
The exhibition will be held in the exhibition hall on the 2nd floor of Building A at Palbok Art Factory, with an admission fee of 10,000 won for adults, 8,000 won for teenagers, and 6,000 won for children. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more. Visitors aged 65 and above, artists, holders of cultural art passes, people with disabilities, national merit recipients, and Jeonju citizens will receive a 50% discount.
Advance reservations can be made through Ticketlink, and on-site visits are also possible. The exhibition hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the exhibition is closed on Mondays.
