On the 22nd, Assemblyman Kim Jung-soo of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province (Iksan 2) held a symposium at the Iksan Youth Hostel to explore ways to activate environmental education for the establishment of an environmental education city in the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province.
The symposium, attended by environmental organizations, administrative officials, and others, provided a platform for sharing current environmental education issues in Jeonbuk, discussing future collaboration directions through examples of environmental education cities in other regions.
The environmental education city is a system introduced by the Ministry of Environment in 2022, with 19 local governments, including Chungbuk and Chungnam, currently designated to promote education for regional-led carbon neutrality.
On this day, former National Environmental Education Center Director Kim In-ho delivered a keynote speech explaining the designation process and expected effects of the environmental education city. Subsequent presentations and discussions focused on Jeonbuk's implementation plans, necessity, and other related topics.
Assemblyman Kim Jung-soo expressed hope that through this symposium, progress could be made towards designating Jeonbuk as an environmental education city, stating that it served as a reminder of the importance of regional environmental education for carbon neutrality.
