Assemblyman Im Jong-myeong of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Council (Namwon 2) urged the establishment of a Jeonbuk-style traditional martial arts development strategy to foster Jeonbuk as a center of "K-traditional martial arts" during his 5-minute free speech at the first plenary session of the 418th extraordinary session held on the 23rd.

Im emphasized that Jeonbuk is a region where various martial arts assets, such as Taekwondo, Taekkyeon, Gungdo, Ssireum, and Namwon's intangible cultural heritage Yongdam Geommu, have deep roots, stating that "Jeonbuk has more than enough potential to leap to the center of world martial arts based on tradition and culture."

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the global martial arts industry is worth approximately 552 trillion won, constituting a global industry with over one billion practitioners. Im proposed that Jeonbuk should develop into a comprehensive cultural tourism destination that combines martial arts-related education, experiences, exhibitions, and performances based on this marketability.

Especially considering the preparations for hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics, Im suggested transforming the Saemangeum World Jamboree site into a traditional martial arts development center, emphasizing that "Saemangeum, with its international event infrastructure and accessibility, is the optimal location where martial arts development and regional balanced development can be achieved simultaneously."

Im stressed that the establishment of traditional martial arts sanctuaries is a strategic industry with significant ripple effects beyond building sports infrastructure, contributing to revitalizing local economies and creating employment opportunities. He strongly requested that Jeonbuk Province proactively conduct feasibility studies and establish basic plans for this initiative.
