Muju County has been selected as the final recipient in the public offering for the '2025 Artificial Kidney Room Support Project' organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. This project aims to improve medical accessibility in areas where blood dialysis is difficult, and Muju County plans to install and operate an artificial kidney room at the county-owned nursing hospital scheduled to open in June this year.

The support amount is set at 150 million won for the first 6 months of the first year, and then 300 million won annually with 50% each from national and local funds.

Yoo Sang-cheol, head of the Health Administration Team at Muju County Health and Medical Center, stated, "Currently, there are no medical institutions in the area capable of blood dialysis, forcing 34 patients to seek treatment at nearby hospitals." He added, "With this project, we expect a significant improvement in local medical accessibility."

The Muju County Nursing Hospital in Dangsan-ri, Muju-eup, has a total of 126 beds spread over 3 floors above ground and 1 floor below ground. In addition to the artificial kidney room, it will also operate a physical therapy room, a dementia-specialized ward, and other facilities. The artificial kidney room can accommodate 12 patients and will be staffed with one doctor, two nurses, and other specialized personnel along with the blood dialysis machine.

Furthermore, Muju County currently provides a monthly transportation subsidy of 100,000 won to residents registered with kidney disorders who undergo blood dialysis twice a month or more.
