"Debt Too Much to Pay" Wins Grand Prize in the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival International Competition

The 26th Jeonju International Film Festival (co-executive directors Min Sung-wook and Jung Joon-ho) announced the winning works in a total of 17 categories, including international competition, Korean competition, and Korean short film competition, at an awards ceremony held on the 6th at the Samsung Culture Hall at Jeonbuk University.
This year's festival screened 224 films from 57 countries during the Golden Week holiday from April 30th to May 5th, receiving enthusiastic responses from audiences. Among them, 14 films were honored with awards. The awards ceremony was attended by many, including Woo Beom-gi, the chairman of the organizing committee, jury members, directors and actors from the competition sections, and figures from the film industry.
The Grand Prize in the International Competition section went to director Joel Alfonso Vargas's "I Owe Too Much Debt." Director Vargas expressed his happiness, saying, "I feel as if I am on the moon right now," and thanked the enthusiastic applause from the Jeonju International Film Festival audience. The Best Picture award in this category went to director Cheng Deming's "Heart of a Poet," and the Special Jury Prize went to "Record of Resistance" (directed by Alejandro Albalado Hodar and Concha Barquero Artes).
In the Korean Competition section, the Grand Prize was awarded to director Cho Hyun-seo's "Winter Light." Director Cho expressed sincere gratitude to the production team who believed in him until the end. The inaugural winner of the Nongshim Shin Ramyun Award was the director of "Summer Camera," Seongseul, who stated, "I want to contribute to a safer world for the queer community through film."
Director Park Jun-ho of "3670" stood out by winning four awards, including Distribution Support Award, CGV Award, Watcha Award, and Best Actor Award. The lead actor Kim Hyun-mok won the Best Actor award for his role as 'Young-jun,' and actress Son Sora from "Still, I Love You" also won the Best Actor award.
In the Korean Short Film Competition section, which recorded the highest number of submissions in history (1,510 films), director Hwang Hyun-ji's "Barely Alive" won the Grand Prize, Kim Hae-jin's "Suddenly" won the Director's Award, and Shin Yul's "Star Country, Star Tree" won the Special Jury Prize. Director Shin expressed deep emotion, saying, "I felt that the film saved other lives."
In the Special Section, awards were given to ▲Mexico's National Cineteca Opening Support Award: Director Cha Jung-yoon's "Meeting Place" ▲NETPAC Award: Director Suda Tetsuichiro's "Black Bull" ▲J Vision Award: Director Kim Tae-hwi's "Lovers of the Empty House" ▲Documentary Award: Director Kim Il-ran's "Eddy Alis: Reverse."
