At the press conference titled 'Press Conference Urging the New Government for Agriculture/Trade Negotiations' held at the Jeonbuk Provincial Council press room on the 29th, agricultural organizations in the Jeonbuk region urged for a comprehensive review of the US-Korea trade negotiations by the new government. They stated, "It is necessary to halt the one-sided US-Korea trade negotiations known as the 'JULY package' and prioritize the formulation of agricultural policies that consider the lives of the people and food sovereignty."
Participants strongly criticized the trade negotiation proposals such as expanding rice imports, importing US beef aged over 30 months, relaxing hygiene and quarantine standards, and allowing the import of LMO potatoes, stating that they "threaten the health of the people and the agricultural ecosystem."
They emphasized the need for "international cooperation and long-term strategies to protect trade sovereignty against the unequal demands of the US" and urged the new government to "face the urgent voices of farmers and citizens and establish sustainable agricultural protection policies."
The press conference was attended by a total of seven organizations including the Jeonbuk Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives, Jeonbuk Women Farmers' Union, Jeonbuk Rice Producers' Association, Jeonbuk Branch of the National Hanwoo Association, Jeonbuk Organic Farming Association, and the Jeonbuk Headquarters of the Society for Realizing Social Reform through Internal Cleansing and Constitutional Amendment Movement.
