Jeonju City is hosting an academic forum to deeply discuss the direction of local art history and the municipal art museum. The City and the Korean Modern and Contemporary Art History Society will hold the 3rd academic forum on the 20th at the Korean Traditional Culture Center seminar room, with the theme 'Exploring the Identity of Jeonju Art through Research on Artists and Educational Spaces.'

This forum is an opportunity to academically reexamine the identity of Jeonju art and its future direction. The City has previously held forums on topics such as 'What should art museums contain' in 2023 and 'Art for All, an Art Museum Open to Everyone' last year, and this year's focus is on establishing the identity of Jeonju art.

The forum will include presentations on research on modern and contemporary artists from Jeonju, Jeonju art historians, members of the Hanmukhoe group from Jeonju, Donggwang Art Research Institute and Park Byung-soo, and the traditional and modern aspects of Jeonju Hwadan's color painting, totaling 5 topics. Following the presentations, a comprehensive discussion will take place with cultural heritage commissioner Mok Soo-hyun as the chair, and experts including Lee Ae-sun, the director of the Jeonbuk Provincial Art Museum, will participate in in-depth discussions on the future and role of local art museums.

Through this forum, the City aims to comprehensively illuminate the roles of artists and art educational institutions based in Jeonju, the formation process of local art groups, and systematically organize foundational materials on the historical flow and characteristics of Jeonju art history.

Noh Eun-young, the director of the Jeonju City Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, stated, "This academic conference aims to solidify the academic foundation of Jeonju art and is an important opportunity to define the identity of the municipal art museum." The City has called for the active interest and participation of local artists and citizens.
