It has been pointed out that a proactive response is needed in the face of the failure of the joint Seoul-Pyongyang Olympics for 2032, in order to attract the Jeonju Summer Olympics.
Yoon Kang-ro, an international sports diplomacy expert and director (IOC Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission member), emphasized at a special lecture at the "Jeonbuk Centennial Forum" held at the Jeonbuk Provincial Office on the 13th, that "If Jeonbuk attracts the Olympics, it can create a turning point for regional economic recovery and balanced development," and stressed that "Now is the golden time for preparation."
Director Yoon sees the year 2036 as an important opportunity in terms of continuity with the history of Olympic hosting, marking the 100th anniversary of Son Kee-chung's gold medal, and suggested that rapid progress should be made in areas such as domestic and international promotion, networking with IOC officials, and establishing a sports diplomacy task force.
Director Lee Nam-ho of the Jeonbuk Research Institute promised comprehensive support, saying that "Attracting the Olympics to Jeonbuk will be the catalyst for regional advancement."
The forum was hosted by the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, jointly organized by the Jeonbuk Research Institute and the Jeonju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and was attended by officials from relevant agencies in the province.
