Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 16th that it had collected 220 million won from 336 defaulters by introducing a special management system for 'local government payment obligation defaulters,' the first of its kind in the country.
Since last April, the province has conducted a comprehensive investigation into the payment obligations of 653 local tax defaulters with amounts exceeding 100,000 won, and seized a total of 1.01 billion won in payment obligations. The targets included businesses such as bus transportation companies and comprehensive construction companies that receive subsidies or facility funds from local governments.
After encouraging voluntary payment, Jeonbuk Province immediately implemented seizure and collection measures for non-compliant individuals, and is concurrently pursuing strong measures such as tracking hidden assets and seizing real estate.
Kim Jong-pil, head of the local government administration department, stated, "For intentional defaulters, we will utilize all means such as home searches and financial asset tracking to respond."
