Jeonju City has established the 'Traditional Hanji Artisan College' to cultivate specialized talents who will lead the preservation of traditional culture and the future of the hanji industry.
On the 16th, the city held an opening ceremony at the Jeonju Millennium Hanji Center, attended by Mayor Woo Bum-ki, Vice Chairman Choi Joo-man of the Jeonju City Council, hanji industry representatives, and trainees. During the ceremony, five selected trainees were awarded admission certificates.
The Traditional Hanji Artisan College is structured with introductory, basic, and advanced courses over a period of 30 months, systematically passing down traditional manufacturing techniques through theoretical and practical education. Support such as education and training fees, incentives, and domestic and overseas excursions will also be provided.
During the event, along with the trainees' pledge statements, a time capsule bearing the seal of 'City of Hanji Culture' was sealed.
Mayor Woo Bum-ki expressed his hope that the growth of the next generation of hanji artisans would contribute significantly to the inheritance of traditional hanji and the local economy, promising continuous support.
