National Gugak Center Changgeukdan, Pansori Performance

The Jeonbuk Provincial Government's National Gugak Center Changgeukdan will present the traditional Korean narrative singing genre Pansori, which has been designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, through a vocal performance.

On the 9th, at 7:30 p.m., the National Gugak Center will host the 6th performance of the "8 People, 8 Colors, Sounds of Tradition" series as part of the first half of 2025's Thursday regular performances at the Hall of Masters. The first stage will be marked by member Yu Huiwon's performance of the scene "Sangjwadaetum" from the "Sugungga," signaling the beginning of the show. This scene depicts various animals quarreling to occupy the seats as the animals embark on a journey to find a rabbit, setting a lively tone for the performance with humor and satire.

The second stage will feature member Lee Jung-in's performance of the scene "Tarubi" from the "Simcheongga," portraying the sorrowful appearance of Sim Bongsa grieving for Simcheong who has fallen into the water, harmonizing the sounds of Jin-gye-myeon and Sangcheong.

Next, member Park Tae-bin will perform the scene "Okjungga" from the "Chunhyangga," where Chunhyang laments her tragic fate while imprisoned in a cell after being beaten with a stick, evoking deep emotions and longing in the audience.

The fourth stage will present member Lee Jong-ho's rendition of the scene "Chogyeongigyeong" from the "Chunhyangga," dramatically depicting Mongryong disguised as a beggar searching for Chunhyang who is imprisoned in a cell.

The fifth performance will be member Park Su-hyun's portrayal of the tragic scene "Beompi Junglyu" from the "Simcheongga," where Simcheong's boat tragically heads towards the waterfall, reaching the climax of the narrative.

Following that, member Han Dan-young will perform the scene "Jebinojeonggi" from the "Heungboga," showcasing the journey of a swallow repaying a favor to Heungbo by bringing a lady who owes him a favor, highlighting the charm of the narrative through vivid descriptions of various regions and landscapes. Han Dan-young won the President's Award in the National Pansori Masters Competition at this year's Seopjeboseong Voice Festival.

Subsequently, Chief Member Choi Hyun-joo's performance of the scene "Haengseonjeon-ya" from the "Simcheongga" will depict the heart-wrenching moment where Sim Bongsa expresses his grief upon hearing that Simcheong has been sold for three hundred sacks of rice, showcasing Choi Hyun-joo's strong vocal prowess, having won the President's Award in the Pansori Masters and Masters Competition.

Lastly, member Lee Se-heon will conclude with the scene "Buljireuneun" from the "Jeokbyeokga," depicting the climax of the battle at Jeokbyeokga due to the strategies of Ju Yu and Gongmyeong, with the frontline and equipment burning, and soldiers dying, portraying the scene of Jujo fleeing in a dramatic and vivid manner.
