Dream Social Cooperative (represented by Choi Sung-won) successfully held a camping event and water play for individuals with developmental disabilities in the recently opened Wanju Caravan Park from the 19th to the 20th.
The camping event, which saw participation from a total of 60 individuals from 16 teams representing 10 organizations in the Jeollabuk-do region, provided a meaningful opportunity for participants to showcase the skills they have honed for independence in various areas such as simple cooking, daily living, and maintaining public spaces based on the daily life training they have practiced at home and welfare institutions.
In addition to the camping event, various programs such as a barbecue party, fashion show, dance party with a DJ, and exciting water play at the Amazon outdoor swimming pool were organized to help participants relieve stress, support the independence and social participation of individuals with developmental disabilities, and create a space for healing and empathy.
Im Mi-kyung (pseudonym, 32 years old, female), who won the overall excellence award among the participants, expressed, "The 'Simple Cooking Contest' I participated in this time was an experiential competition where I planned and made food using simple ingredients, which helped improve my independent living skills and time management," adding, "It was great to complete cooking within the given time and share each other's food."
Kim Mo (36 years old, male), who won the leadership award as a representative of a disability organization, stated, "It was a very meaningful time to help individuals with developmental disabilities learn cooking easily and joyfully, fostering a sense of independence. Above all, I am very grateful for providing a fun experience of participating in the contest and water play for many individuals with disabilities."
Choi Sung-won, the representative of Dream Social Cooperative, expressed his hope that through the third camping event held, individuals with developmental disabilities could assess the independent living and daily life skills they have learned and practiced in their respective organizations in front of many peers, and feel the strength of living together as members of society. He also stated his commitment to continue promoting various programs for the improvement of the rights of individuals with developmental disabilities and social integration in the future.
