Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC has taken the first step towards a "world without hunger" by partnering with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
The WFP Korea office announced on the 21st that they have officially partnered with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC (Chairman Jeong Yoo-seok) at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium. Through this agreement, Jeonbuk Hyundai will be the first K-League team to display the WFP logo on their team uniforms, delivering a message to overcome food crises domestically and internationally.
Jeonbuk Hyundai and WFP decided to collaborate based on a shared vision of using the power of sports to raise awareness of global food issues and encourage more practical participation. Jeonbuk Hyundai will attach the WFP logo to the center top of their uniforms and donate a portion of the uniform sales revenue to WFP's humanitarian activities.
Lee Hyun-ji, Director of WFP Korea Office, stated, "This agreement, where sports and humanitarianism meet, will be a strong catalyst for raising awareness of the seriousness of food crises to the public," and expressed delight in partnering with Jeonbuk Hyundai, which has the most passionate fandom in Korea.
Jeong Yoo-seok, CEO of Jeonbuk Hyundai, expressed, "At a time when millions of people around the world are suffering from hunger, I feel a great sense of responsibility and pride in being able to convey hope and change through sports," and said, "This partnership will be another way for the club to fulfill its social responsibility."
Jeonbuk Hyundai has thus strengthened its role as a sports club that goes beyond mere game performance to convey social messages. Their actions are being recognized as a new model of non-profit cooperation in the domestic and international professional sports industry.
Meanwhile, WFP is expanding its cooperation with the private sector to address global food crises caused by climate crises, conflicts, economic downturns, etc., and South Korean national football team captain Son Heung-min is also active as a WFP Goodwill Ambassador.
