The Jeonju City Health Center, led by Director Kim Shin-sun, is actively working to ensure the health rights of people with disabilities by establishing medical infrastructure and expanding cultural experience opportunities.
The health center announced on the 26th that since 2022, it has been operating Yesu Hospital as a disability-friendly obstetrics and gynecology department, and designated Yesu Hospital and Dream Sol Hospital as disability-friendly medical institutions. In particular, Yesu Hospital is the nation's first disability-friendly obstetrics and gynecology department for women with disabilities, equipped with specialized personnel and facilities to provide high-risk deliveries and emergency care 24/7, 365 days a year.
Since its designation, Yesu Hospital has provided a total of 874 medical services (21 deliveries, 21 surgeries, 207 admissions, 625 outpatient visits) by the end of 2024, contributing to the health promotion of women with disabilities.
Furthermore, Dream Sol Hospital has been designated as a disability-friendly medical institution, providing convenience facilities for people with disabilities and participating in the "Primary Care Physician for People with Disabilities" program, currently providing health management services to 26 disabled patients.
In addition to medical infrastructure, the Jeonju City Health Center is also running cultural programs to expand social participation opportunities for people with disabilities. On this day, the health center, under the auspices of the Peaceful Healthy Living Support Center, invited around 200 local people with disabilities and their families to a movie screening event of "High Five" at Lotte Cinema Jeonju Peace Branch. Twenty students from Jeonju University's Occupational Therapy Department volunteered to assist the attendees during the event.
A family of a person with disabilities who participated in the movie screening expressed, "It was a precious time where we could go out together and laugh after a long time."
Director Kim Shin-sun of the Jeonju City Health Center stated, "A small cultural experience can be a great joy to someone," and expressed, "I will continue to organize various cultural programs where people with and without disabilities can socialize together and do my best to improve the accessibility of medical services."
