The organizing committee of the Jeonju World Sound Festival will publicly recruit participants for '2025 Sound Frontier' until 3 p.m. on July 3.
'Sound Frontier' is a project to discover representative emerging artists of the sound festival, which started in 2010 and is now in its 15th year. So far, a total of 43 teams have been selected and introduced to major overseas stages such as the Penang Jazz Festival in Malaysia and the Skiyaki Mits The World in Japan, laying the groundwork for new possibilities in Korean traditional music and global expansion.
This year's sound festival has been selected as the representative festival of traditional genres for the 'Genre Market Hub Support Project' organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center, and will start the only domestic traditional music distribution platform 'Sound NEXT' from 2025. In connection with this, 'Sound Frontier' evolves into a platform that connects creators and the music market beyond simple talent discovery. It plans to operate with a program centered on processes such as networking with domestic and international experts, and devising ways to enter the domestic and international traditional music markets.
The recruitment target for the newly transformed '2025 Sound Frontier' is individuals or music groups based on Korean traditional music. Anyone who can perform on stage for over 60 minutes with their unique repertoire (outdoors), creators with a strong will to enter the domestic and international music markets, and creators who avoid simple ensemble forms with Korean traditional music can apply.
However, individuals or groups affiliated with national public cultural and arts institutions (up to 20% of the total number of performers), school or religious institution-affiliated groups, and clubs centered around elementary, middle, high school, and university students cannot apply. All participants must attend the residency workshop held from July 19 (Sat) to 21 (Mon) and the showcase and related programs held between August 13 (Wed) and 14 (Thu).
