On the 16th, Gunsan City (Mayor Kang Im-joon) requested swift designation and national-level support for the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex, stating that it is the most suitable candidate for the government's 'RE100 Industrial Complex' policy.

The Saemangeum Industrial Complex already has a large-scale renewable energy infrastructure in place, enabling immediate project implementation and boasting favorable location conditions for attracting global RE100 participating companies, making it a prime candidate for the 'RE100 Industrial Complex.'

The city explained its competitiveness based on plans such as a 7GW renewable energy plan, completion of 300MW ground-mounted solar power, designation as a Smart Green National Pilot Industrial Complex, and designation of a tri-port logistics network and comprehensive bonded area.

If designated as an RE100 Industrial Complex, Gunsan City expects effects such as enhancing export competitiveness, fostering advanced and eco-friendly industries, creating local jobs, and establishing a carbon-neutral industrial ecosystem.

Mayor Kang Im-joon stated, "Achieving RE100 is a national task, and the designation of the Saemangeum Industrial Complex presents an opportunity to simultaneously address climate crisis, economic growth, and regional balanced development," adding, "I will continuously suggest the government's active support."
