The youth artist group 'Learn Company' will present a family play 'Alice in Wonderland Season 1 - Bee Mystery' at 2 pm and 5 pm on the 19th at the Wujin Cultural Space Arts Theater in Jeonju.
'Learn Company' is a youth artist group that started with the question of "What role should contemporary performing arts play in the local community?" They aim to move beyond the theater ecosystem centered in Seoul and the metropolitan area, and actively work in Jeollabuk-do to help young artists engage in safe and sustainable creative activities in their own region.
This production is a family play that allegorically explores the relationship between the climate crisis and capitalist omnipotence. It reinterprets the endless human desires that lead to ecological destruction and the climate crisis, as well as the value conflicts surrounding them, within the familiar narrative structure of 'Alice in Wonderland.'
Set in 2025 against the backdrop of a scorching Earth, Alice fights against the climate crisis, listening to the suffering of Earth's organisms, while Helena becomes engulfed in the splendor and desires of the city. Facing the real crisis rather than the fantasy in the fairy tale, Alice embarks on a journey to prevent the end of the Earth with the help of the bee's clock.
A representative of Learn Company stated, "We chose the format of a family play to easily and engagingly convey the issues of the climate crisis and anthropocentrism," adding, "We hope that the performance will serve as an opportunity for children and adults to think about environmental issues together."
