[Rebuttal Report] Jeonbuk Branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers' Union, False Claims Regarding Jeonbuk Education Newspaper... Different from the Truth

... Editor(2025-07-21 14:13:12)

The Jeonbuk branch of the National Teachers Union (hereinafter referred to as the Jeonbuk branch of the National Teachers Union) issued a statement at a press conference on July 21, making claims that included inaccuracies regarding the local newspaper (Jeonbuk Education Newspaper). In response, the newspaper would like to correct the facts and offer the following rebuttal.

The Jeonbuk branch of the National Teachers Union claimed in their press conference on that day that "On March 6, 2025, at around 11:30 a.m., a reporter from the Jeonbuk Education Newspaper visited Jeonju Misanchod Elementary School with parents and raised questions about the assignment and appointment process of a specific teacher." However, this is a clear falsehood.

The Jeonbuk Education Newspaper visited the school for the first time alone on March 6, 2025, and there is no fact of accompanying any parents or making a joint visit with anyone. The newspaper reporter requested official coverage through the administrative office, followed the entry procedures as guided by the school, and it is confirmed that the teacher in question escorted them to the main entrance of the building at that time.

The dissemination of such subjective claims by the Jeonbuk branch of the National Teachers Union through an official press conference is a clear defamation against the newspaper, undermining the independence and credibility of the press. Furthermore, the content of the article covered by the reporter was a legitimate journalistic activity based on the public interest, with no intention to harm the personal information or reputation of any individual.

The Jeonbuk Education Newspaper demands an immediate correction, distribution of corrective materials, and an official apology regarding the false information presented by the Jeonbuk branch of the National Teachers Union. Additionally, the newspaper will continue to provide accurate and fair coverage based on facts regarding issues unfolding in the education sector in the future.
