Kim Ui-gyeom, the 7th head of the Saemangeum Development Agency, officially began his duties after his inauguration ceremony on July 21.

During the ceremony, Kim stated, "I think I am standing here in accordance with President Lee Jae-myung's wish for me to work hard in my hometown. My heart is full, but my shoulders are heavy."

He emphasized his commitment to making Saemangeum a hub for renewable energy in the era of energy transition, stating, "I will devote all my efforts to growing Saemangeum as a mecca for renewable energy. I will focus on attracting RE100 industrial complexes to Saemangeum. Furthermore, development alone will not suffice for Saemangeum. To harmonize with nature, we will work together to make Saemangeum a place loved by all Koreans through initiatives like seawater circulation and ecosystem restoration."

Kim also pledged, "I will swiftly grasp the tasks at hand and concentrate all my efforts to ensure smooth progress of the projects by organically collaborating with the National Assembly, the Presidential Office, and relevant government agencies to meet the needs of Saemangeum."

Kim Ui-gyeom, the new head, graduated from Gunsan Jeil High School and the Department of Law at Korea University. He previously worked as a journalist for Hankyoreh Newspaper, served as the spokesperson for the Moon Jae-in administration, and held positions as a member of the 21st National Assembly and spokesperson for the Democratic Party.
