Jeonju City announced on the 30th that it will expand the operation of watering trucks to cool down the heat on the roads in response to the ongoing heatwave.

The city plans to add watering operations in areas with frequent complaints, pedestrian-congested areas, bus stops, traditional markets, hospitals, and other places with high pedestrian traffic, in addition to the designated areas. They also intend to increase the frequency of operations as much as possible.

Deokjin-gu and Wansan-gu are currently operating watering trucks from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. when a heatwave warning is in effect, with a total of 12 trucks, 6 each from the respective district offices. The watering trucks will operate without exception on weekends and holidays.

Wansan-gu has deployed watering trucks on 46 km of major arterial roads, while Deokjin-gu has them in 16 sections including Girin-daero and Baekje-daero.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government Health and Environment Research Institute, road watering has the effect of reducing the road surface temperature by about 6.4°C and the sidewalk temperature by 1.5°C, with additional benefits such as dust removal and prevention of road damage.

A Jeonju City official stated, "We will protect the safety of citizens through effective heatwave response that citizens can feel," and added, "We will continue to strengthen on-site watering operations."
