The Jeonju Arts Festival, which is celebrating its third year this year, has fired the starting gun for the project through the selection of an artist planning team.
Organized by the Jeonju Cultural Foundation (CEO Choi Rak-gi), the Jeonju Arts Festival is part of the Cultural City project in South Korea and is scheduled to be held in October in Palbok-dong alongside the 'Future Culture Festival'.
The selected artist planning team for this year is formed to create the festival's dynamism of street arts, artists' subjectivity, and the fusion of tradition and modernity. The team, named 'Jangdan', carries the dual meaning of a group that opens the planning stage and harmonizes breaths.
After a public recruitment and evaluation process, the final selected artist planning team 'Jangdan' will lead the entire process from planning to promotion, execution, and evaluation of the 3rd Jeonju Arts Festival. They will also contribute to enhancing the festival's local attachment and sustainability through cooperation with the local residents' council and the ESG practice council. The planning team is composed of active artists residing in Jeonju and will receive activity fees and office space support within the Palbok Arts Factory for the next three months.
Ha Hyeong-rae, an artist in the theater field, has been appointed as the head of the planning team. He participated in the on-site operation and resident cooperation fields of the Jeonju Arts Festival last year. The other members selected include Kim Won-gon in traditional music, Oh Min-hyuk, winner of the 'iPop Friends Art Award', in the traditional music field, and Yoo Hyo-chang in the field of video and photography.
Head Ha Hyeong-rae stated, "Through collaboration with residents in the past event, I confirmed that we can spread the local values of Palbok-dong. This year, I will create a wonderful festival where artists, the local community, residents, and ESG practices coexist."
Member Kim Won-gon expressed his determination, saying, "I want Jeonju artists to welcome outstanding street art pieces from all over the country and at the same time create a place where local creators can shine."
The Jeonju Arts Festival is a street art festival that interprets the city anew by adding cultural arts to the memories of Palbok-dong industrial complex, a symbol of industrialization in Jeonju in the 1960s. It is scheduled to take place from October 17th to 19th at Palbok Arts Factory and the surrounding streets.
Choi Rak-gi, CEO of the Jeonju Cultural Foundation, stated, "The artist planning team is the face of the Jeonju Arts Festival. We will do our best to ensure there is no lack of support and cooperation."
