The Jeonju Cultural Heritage Foundation (CEO Choi Rak-gi) has selected the final five pieces in the '2025 AI Korean Traditional Music Crossover Composition Contest.'
This year's contest saw a significantly increased number of submissions, nearly three times more than last year, resulting in fiercer competition than ever before. Renowned singer Wang Ki-seok, 'Superstar' composer Lee Han-chul, composer of the theme song for the Yeongdong World Traditional Music Expo Kim Baek-chan, and producer Ahn Ho-seong participated in the judging process, evaluating the popularity, creativity, and utilization of AI technology in the works.
The selected five pieces will be unveiled for the first time through an offline audience evaluation at the Palbok Arts Factory in Jeonju on the 30th. A citizen audience evaluation panel will directly listen to the songs on-site and participate in voting to determine the final rankings of the pieces.
This year, an online audience evaluation (August 30 to September 7) has been introduced to allow citizens who cannot attend in person to participate. This expands upon the previous offline evaluation format from last year, providing more opportunities for citizens to experience the fusion of traditional Korean music and AI music. Online participants will also receive free drink coupons through a lucky draw.
The final rankings will be determined by combining the results of the offline and online audience evaluations, and awards will be presented for the grand prize, excellence award, and outstanding award.
CEO Choi Rak-gi of the Jeonju Cultural Heritage Foundation stated, "This year's contest attracted nearly three times more entries than last year, demonstrating a high level of interest in AI music," and expressed hope that "the combination of expert judging and direct evaluation by citizens will create a new experience where Korean traditional music and AI technology become more approachable."
