The inclusive traditional play 'Jijiji' by the National Gugak Center has been selected for the '2025 National Arts Organization Regional Tour Performance Project' conducted by the Arts Council of Korea and the Arts Management Support Center. The play will tour the Gyeongsang, Jeonbuk, and Chungcheong regions.
'Jijiji' is a reinterpretation of the pansori 'Heungbujeon' from the perspective of a swallow. Directed and adapted by Kim Dae-il, a member of the National Gugak Center, and with music composed by Bang Su-mi, the play showcases the capabilities accumulated by the traditional music ensemble. Additionally, the production will feature audio descriptions of scenes, subtitles in Korean, English, and Chinese, as well as Korean sign language and international sign language for actor dialogues, song lyrics, and audio descriptions, breaking down language and cultural barriers as a barrier-free production.
The first performance will take place at the Hwarang Hall of Gyeongju Arts Center in Gyeongsang Province. Two performances will be held on the evenings of September 5 at 7:30 p.m. and on September 6 at 3 p.m., coinciding with the Chuseok holidays and the World Music and Drama Festival centered around traditional plays. Through this stage, the value of the Korean traditional play genre 'changgeuk' and the significance of the globally recognized 'barrier-free' performance will be highlighted.
Following this, there will be two performances at Gunsan Arts Center Grand Theater on November 8 and two more at the Daejeon City National Gugak Center Courtyard on November 15-16.
All performances are priced at 10,000 won per seat, and tickets can be reserved and inquiries can be made through Ticketlink or by phone (063-282-2527, Cultural Communication Cooperative).
