The 'Saemangeum Global Mega Sandbox' project led by North Jeolla Province has been finally incorporated into the government's national agenda, establishing a regulatory-free experimental stage for Saemangeum to leap as a global advanced industry testbed.

North Jeolla Province announced on the 17th that the Saemangeum Global Mega Sandbox setting was included in the 123 national agenda items confirmed at the State Council meeting on the 16th.

This initiative goes beyond the existing regulatory-free zones to combine regulatory relaxation across the entire Saemangeum area with advanced industry testing, aiming for a national-level innovative strategy that supports the entire industrial ecosystem rather than granting individual company exemptions. Comprehensive support in areas such as SOC, talent development, tax incentives, electricity rates, and R&D will also be pursued.

Saemangeum, with a 291 square kilometer area, is the largest landfill site in South Korea, prepared as a strategic zone with the ability to supply renewable energy based on RE100 and equipped with SOC infrastructure. North Jeolla Province has established the 'ABCDEF+G Saemangeum Vision' by adding 'G (Global Mega Sandbox)' to the government's ABCDEF (AI, Bio, Culture, Defense, Energy, Factory) strategy, planning to gradually create next-generation industrial testing stages such as hemp industry clusters, advanced regenerative bio, and K-Food export hubs.

In the future, North Jeolla Province plans to strengthen cooperation with central government agencies, the National Assembly, academia through expert consultations, and the Saemangeum Policy Forum. They will work with the Saemangeum Development Agency to immediately implement policies and create outcomes.

Kim Mi-jeong, the Director of the Saemangeum Marine and Fisheries Department in North Jeolla Province, stated, "The confirmation of the Saemangeum Global Mega Sandbox establishes Saemangeum as a core hub for national innovative growth," adding, "We will actively support corporate investments to materialize in a regulatory-free experimental stage."
