On the 25th, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province held an opening ceremony for the new building of the Jeonbuk Provincial Traditional Music Institute.
The opening ceremony was attended by about 100 people, including Lee Jung-seok, the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Moon Seung-woo, the Chairman of the Provincial Council, council members, relevant agencies, and traditional music artists, who celebrated the new beginning.
The construction of the new building was initiated to address the aging and cramped space issues of the existing building completed in 1985, and to enhance the quality of traditional music education and performances. Jeonbuk Province demolished the old site and invested a total project cost of 23.6 billion won from groundbreaking in March 2023 to completion in March this year. Since July, traditional music training has been conducted in the new space, leading to expanded activities.
The new building has one basement floor and three above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 6,339 square meters, approximately 2.5 times larger than the previous building. It is equipped with 15 traditional music training rooms, performance planning rooms, educational practice rooms, offices, and has expanded daytime and nighttime classes and training rooms to make it more convenient for residents to learn and enjoy traditional music.
