Jeonbuk Autonomous Province will urgently provide a total of 125 billion won in agricultural disaster recovery funds for farmers who have suffered damages due to abnormal weather conditions.
The province announced on the 25th that it will provide emergency recovery funds to swiftly restore damages to crops, livestock, and smart farm facilities caused by abnormal low temperatures in spring for fruit trees, strong winds and hail in May, and heavy rainfall in June and July, in order to support the stability of farm management.
The beneficiaries of this support include farms with damages to 4,947 hectares of crops (equivalent to 6,900 soccer fields), 62,000 livestock, and 217 pieces of farm machinery and facilities. The scale of recovery fund support is 72 billion won for abnormal low temperatures for fruit trees, 4 billion won for May's strong winds and hail, 42 billion won for June's heavy rainfall, and 7 billion won for July's heavy rainfall, totaling 125 billion won.
Farmers affected by the damages will receive support for pesticide costs, green onion seedling costs, livestock feed costs, and living expenses based on the extent of the damages. The pesticide costs are set at 306,000 won per hectare for fruit trees and 82,000 won for general crops like rice and beans, while the green onion seedling costs are 813,000 won per hectare for vegetables and 372,000 won for general crops. In cases where the damage rate per farm exceeds 50%, living expenses of 183,000 won per household (based on a family of four) will also be provided.
Furthermore, the province plans to implement a policy of deferring repayment of policy funds and reducing interest for up to two years for 228 farms with damage rates exceeding 30%, amounting to 356 billion won, and provide an additional 59 billion won in operating funds through loans to 498 farms.
