Suncheon County has introduced a public cart rental service at Suncheon Market to enhance the convenience of traditional market visitors and revitalize the market. The county has placed 30 folding carts and 30 hand carts, totaling 60 carts, for free rental for elderly individuals, women, and customers making bulk purchases who find it inconvenient to shop. Each cart is equipped with GPS and identification tags for safe management.

Visitors can borrow a cart for free by providing basic personal information on a rental ledger and return it to a designated location after shopping. One merchant expressed hope that if customers who were reluctant to visit the market due to heavy shopping baskets feel less burdened thanks to the carts, it would greatly contribute to market revitalization.

Suncheon County Mayor Choi Young-il stated, "Although this public cart rental service is a small idea, it is a life-friendly policy that can greatly reduce daily inconveniences," and added, "We will continue to devise various support measures to help traditional markets regain vitality."

While Suncheon County is the first in Jeollabuk-do to introduce a public cart rental service, similar initiatives can be found in other regions as well. In Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, Jeonbuk Central Credit Union sponsored 30 shopping carts at Sinjeon Market to enhance visitor convenience. Uljin County in Gyeongsangbuk-do has also placed folding carts at designated stores in Uljin Bajeeg Market for trial operation. Gohyeon Market in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do, operates a shopping cart rental service, and Gwangjin-gu Traditional Market in Seoul has introduced a cart-sharing business, receiving positive responses from residents.

It is expected that when local governments and community organizations work together to expand public cart rental services, traditional markets will not only reduce visitor inconveniences but also regain vitality.
