EBS (CEO Kim Yu-yeol) distributed the 'Disability Understanding-Based Activity Guide' on the 26th of last month to create a tailored online learning environment for students with disabilities.
This guide, created to be used by mentors and mentees in video tutoring sessions, reflects the expertise of current special education teachers after receiving their advice.
Video tutoring is a personalized online tutoring service provided for free to reduce private education costs and bridge educational disparities, with students with disabilities also participating. In addition to the existing activity guide, EBS has produced this new material that strengthens instructional strategies based on disability types.
The mentor guide includes specific information such as understanding behavioral characteristics based on disability types, preparing for the first class, utilizing materials, communication, and feedback strategies. Particularly, the guide features detailed content, such as differentiating teaching methods for total blindness and low vision.
Mentors who used the guide also showed positive responses. A college student mentor in South Jeolla evaluated, "It was helpful to be informed about instructional methods by differentiating disability types," while a mentor in Daegu stated, "It was beneficial as it could be referenced for improving teaching methods even for non-disabled students."
An EBS official stated, "This guide will serve as an opportunity to enhance equal educational opportunities for students with disabilities and raise awareness of diversity for college student mentors and non-disabled students," adding, "We will continue to reflect on field feedback and make continuous improvements in the future."
The guide can be accessed on the EBS video tutoring official website notice board (tutoring.ebsoc.co.kr/cs/notice).
