Visual artist Park Hyo-jin's solo exhibition "Reaching Reason through Sensibility. part8" will be held at the Seoul branch of Jeollabuk-do Provincial Museum from October 3 to 19.
Park Hyo-jin, who says that reasoning begins with the discomfort of familiar things, has been working on questioning reasoning using jangji (장지), a type of sturdy hanji (한지) paper, as the main material. Jangji is a type of hanji thicker than regular paper, made by layering hanji multiple times. Among them, the jangji specifically used by the artist is produced only in a place in Jeonju, his hometown, and he feels that this traditional material is deeply connected to his fundamental identity.
The artist believes that the special material of jangji can transform into new forms through conversion and can play a role in answering questions about identity beyond its functional role. In this exhibition, the artist plans to showcase the differentiation of senses led by small changes in forms, introduce various artistic aspects of Jeollabuk, and further convey the novelty of hanji to various parts of the country beyond Jeonju.
One of the works exhibited in this exhibition, "", is also a piece made by reprocessing jangji into 10 layers, and the unique texture created by the overlapping layers of jangji is expected to provide viewers with a special experience.
Park Hyo-jin majored in Oriental painting at Mokwon University's College of Fine Arts, obtained a master's degree from the graduate school, and received an encouragement award in the "2024 Today Hanji Creation Contest." He has been consistently engaged in artistic activities under the theme "Reaching Reason through Sensibility."
