Renowned singer Bang Su-mi, a master of pansori, will showcase her performance of "Bang Su-mi's Gangsanje Simcheongga" at 2 p.m. on the 12th at the Wujin Cultural Space Art Theater in Jeonju.
The performance is the seventh stage of "Pansori Five Foundations with Yupa Commentary," where the master Kim Tae-young and commentator Park Jung-kyung, the director of the National Namdo National Music Institute, will take the stage together to enhance the artistic quality and emotional impact of the piece.
Continuing the lineage of renowned singers Jung Eung-min, Jo Sang-hyun, and Nam Hae-sung, Bang Su-mi faithfully inherits the tradition of Gangsanje Boseong pansori, captivating the audience with deep emotions and rich expressiveness.
Her performance of Simcheongga perfectly embodies the beauty of tradition. This stage goes beyond a simple reproduction of the classics, offering a precious opportunity to appreciate the aesthetics embedded in Yupa and the emotional depth of pansori narratives along with commentary.
Having participated in over 20 singing and pansori presentations, Bang Su-mi currently serves as a directing member of the National Folk Music Institute's Changgeukdan, the artistic director of the Jeonju Pansori Choir, and the artistic director of the Pansori Ensemble Harangga.
