Jeonju City has decided that the public sector's standard living wage for next year will be increased by 260 won from this year, reaching 11,220 won.
The Jeonju City Living Wage Committee recently held a meeting and deliberated to set the living wage for 2026 at 11,220 won per hour.
This amount represents a 260-won (2.4%) increase from this year's rate of 11,960 won, and it is 900 won (8.7%) higher than the government's designated minimum wage for next year, which is 13,200 won.
The 'living wage' is a wage system that pays workers at a level higher than the legal minimum wage to ensure their living stability and quality of life. Since the enactment of the 'Jeonju City Living Wage Ordinance' in 2014, the city has been setting and applying this living wage annually.
The Jeonju City living wage for next year will be effective from January 1, 2026, to December 31, benefiting approximately 761 individuals, including fixed-term workers under Jeonju City and employees of the Jeonju Facilities Corporation and investment agencies.
Given the significant role the Jeonju City living wage system has played in improving workers' quality of life and promoting local economic circulation since its introduction, the city plans to continue efforts to ensure the stable operation of the system, aiming for its gradual expansion into the private sector.
