On the 15th, the Jeonju City Sign Language Interpretation Center (Director Lee Hyun-seok) in collaboration with the Jeonbuk Farmers' Association Jeonju Branch held the 9th Jeonju Sign Language Culture Festival at an outdoor performance venue at the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Office.
Under the slogan "Sign Language is an Opportunity," this year's event was designed as a time for deaf and non-deaf individuals to come together, share understanding and empathy towards deaf culture.
During the event, individuals who have contributed to the promotion of the rights of the deaf and the welfare of people with disabilities were honored with commendations.
Various experience booths, sign language presentations, performances, and diverse programs were held, creating a festive atmosphere where people with and without disabilities could come together.
In particular, the sign language performances and experience booths provided a special opportunity for families to learn sign language and experience deaf culture together. Citizens had the chance to directly experience sign language and deepen their understanding of deaf culture.
Lee Seok-hyun, the Director of the Jeonju City Sign Language Interpretation Center, stated, "This cultural festival has been a valuable foundation for deaf and non-deaf individuals to communicate and understand culture together," adding, "We will continue our efforts to promote the value of deaf culture in the future."
The Sign Language Culture Festival is held annually to share culture and art through sign language, improve social awareness of the deaf, and broaden empathy towards deaf culture.
