On the 10th, at 7:30 p.m., the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province National Gugak Center (Director Yoo Young-dae) will hold the 2025 year-end Gugak performance "Jeonbuk's Sound, Year-end Waves" at the Han-guk Sori Cultural Center's Moak Hall.
The first stage will feature Kim Ji-chun, Lee Jong-min, Shin Bong-joo from the dance troupe, and Kang Hyun-beom as a guest performer presenting Samdo Seoljanggu, energetically opening the performance with the energy of percussion instruments. Samdo Seoljanggu is a stage that emphasizes the musical aspect more than the playful aspect, as it is a compilation of rhythms from renowned Janggu masters in the Samdo regions such as Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Honam, and Yeongnam.
The second stage will feature a reinterpretation of familiar patriotic melodies in the orchestral work "One Song of Patriotism, National Anthem" composed by Son Da-hye, conducted by Lee Yong-tak, the artistic director of the Gugak Orchestra. Following this, traditional folk songs "Geumgangsan Taryeong, Sachalga, Donghae Sea" arranged for the orchestra by Lee Yong-tak will be performed, combining the lyrical nature of traditional folk songs with a modern sensibility of Korean orchestral music, under the guidance of Kim Cha-kyung, the artistic director of the Changgeuk troupe, with the direction of Cha Bok-soon and 11 other members.
Next, the Gayageum concerto "Por una Cabeza, Czardas" composed by Vittorio Monti will be performed as a collaborative stage by the orchestra and Kim Na-young, a sub-section member of the orchestra. Expressing tango and Hungarian folk dance tunes through the sound of the Gayageum, the performance showcases splendid skills and emotions.
The fifth stage will be adorned by the folk songs "Nongbuga, Jindo Arirang" arranged by Lee Yong-tak, performed by Kim Do-hyun and 7 others from the Changgeuk troupe. This piece, expressing humor and satire through masculine vocal richness and body movements, revitalizes traditional folk songs with a fresh arrangement.
The final stage will be the dance troupe's original dance piece "Pungjang." This work, a representative repertoire of Director Lee Hye-kyung, has received acclaim from audiences both domestically and internationally. Based on rural music, this original dance piece encapsulates the sentiments of the traditional village ritual "Tteulbol Bigut," wishing for the village's prosperity and sharing joy, with the participation of all former members of the dance troupe under the direction of Song Hyeong-jun, decorating the grand finale of the year-end performance.
