On the 20th, the National Folk Music Institute (Director Kim Joong-hyun) will hold the 2025 year-end performance of the short traditional opera "Five Scenes" at 3 p.m. at the Yeewon Hall.
The performance is structured in a short format, focusing on the key scenes of representative Nundamok from Simcheongga, Chunhyangga, Heungboga, Jeokbyeokga, and Sugungga. The production, highlighting the characteristics of each piece, and a stage layout close to the audience, enhances immersion. A total of 49 performers from the opera troupe, instrumental ensemble, and dance troupe participate.
The main scenes include the "Simcheongga" with the highlight of "Ascending to the Royal Palace," "Chunhyangga" with the "Dan'oh Scene," "Heungboga" with the "Hwacho Scene," "Jeokbyeokga" with the "Military Sorrow Scene," and "Sugungga" with the "Rabbit Splitting Scene." Connecting pieces like "Love Song," "Bak Taryeong," "Sae Taryeong," and "Beompi Jungnyu" enhance the flow and completeness of the entire performance.
Along with the performance, a program called "Enjoying Year-End Festivities" will be operated.
Starting one hour before the performance at 2 p.m., there will be a snack prepared for the audience along with a Korean traditional music Christmas carol concert called "Lobby Music Concert." After the performance, there will be a flower-sharing event symbolizing Dongji (Winter Solstice) and the distribution of 2026 New Year calendars to share the warm meaning of the year-end.
The event is free for all ages. Reservations can be made via phone (063-620-2329), KakaoTalk channel (chatting with a consultant), and the official website of the National Folk Music Institute (namwon.gugak.go.kr).
