The 24th National Disabled Table Tennis Championships, hosted by the Korea Disabled Table Tennis Association (President Park Ho-seok), opened on the 11th at the Jeonju Oulim National Sports Center in Jeonju City.
The opening ceremony held on the 11th was attended by association officials including Honorary Chairman Jang Chun-bae, branch presidents from across the country, key figures, Mayor Woo Bum-gi of Jeonju City, and Nam Gwan-woo, Chairman of the Jeonju City Council. Also present were executives and referees from the organizations under the Korea Disabled Sports Association.
President Park Ho-seok stated at the opening ceremony, "The association will do its best to enhance the brand value of disabled table tennis." He also received a big round of applause for setting the goal of promoting exchanges with China following the successful exchange event commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, and further planning exchange events with North East Asian countries, including North Korea, as a form of 'small diplomacy'.
This tournament, a professional competition with the highest domestic ranking of 100 points at stake, saw the participation of over 320 players aiming to become national representatives.
Korean disabled table tennis reaffirmed its status as a powerhouse in the sport by winning 2 gold, 3 silver, and 9 bronze medals at the Paris Paralympics last year. Despite several years of difficulties, the popularity of disabled table tennis has actually expanded, with singles matches being held in all classes from Wheelchair CLASS 1-5, Standing CLASS 6-10, Intellectual (11), to Hearing (DF).
Following this event, the Korea Disabled Table Tennis Association plans to host the 2026 National Team Selection Tournament at the same venue.
In this tournament, all participating players were provided with 'Shin Yubin Rice' as sponsored items.
