Among the five traditional Korean pansori performances, the most luxurious and masculine aesthetic is embodied in the "Jeokbyeokga" from the "Pak Bongsulje" and "Dongpyeonje" schools, which will take the stage in Jeonju. Renowned singer Park Hyeonyoung will meet the audience at 2 p.m. on the 21st at the Wujin Cultural Space Arts Theater in Jeonju.

Singer Park Hyeonyoung has learned from famous singers Kim Il-gu and Kim Young-ja, and is currently active as a member of the Jeollabuk-do National Gugak Center's Changgeukdan. He has previously won the Presidential Award in the Pansori Singer Division at the 48th Jeonju Daesaseupnori National Competition.

This performance, the final stage of the "Five Traditional Pansori Performances with Explanations" series, will feature the master Park Chuwoo, with Park Jeonggyeong, the director of the National Namdo Gugakwon, providing in-depth explanations of the work's history and musical characteristics.

The "Jeokbyeokga" from the Pak Bongsulje school is considered to have the most luxurious sound among the Dongpyeonje pansori performances. It demands high notes and a strong vocal range, with numerous archaic and idiomatic expressions, making it the most challenging among the five performances. This sound has been passed down based on the Dongpyeonje lineage leading from Song Heungrok to Park Bongsul, and the central themes are the restructured episodes of the Three Kingdoms' "Battle of Red Cliffs," tailored to our emotional sensibilities.

The grand narrative, spanning from the oath of brotherhood of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei to the defeat of Cao Cao and the loyalty of Guan Yu, is enhanced by the masculine vocal techniques of the main character and the clear distinction between high and low pitches, adding a commanding voice that heightens the dramatic tension. This performance is expected to present the profound essence of the Dongpyeonje Jeokbyeokga with the authenticity and powerful vocal skills of singer Park Hyeonyoung.
