National Gunsan University announced that Professor Jang Se-jun and his research team from the Department of Architecture Engineering won the Excellent Paper Award at the '2025 Construction Management Society Fall Academic Conference'. The conference was held at Sonokam Jeju from the 20th to the 22nd, providing a platform to share the latest research achievements in the fields of construction, logistics, and infrastructure management.
The award-winning paper titled 'Derivation of 4-Legged Walking UGV Operation Scenarios through Detailed Analysis of Construction Site' systematically presents the autonomous driving and on-site operation scenarios of a 4-legged walking unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) in environments like container construction sites where large-scale, unstructured, and high-risk elements are mixed.
The research team conducted a detailed analysis of obstacles distribution, work routes, ground conditions, and site characteristics within the construction site, designing autonomous driving algorithms and operational strategies to enhance robot movement efficiency. The study received high evaluations for its academic value and practical applicability.
Researcher Han Byung-wook stated, "We have concretized the operation scenarios for 4-legged walking UGV suitable for construction site environments, suggesting the potential for the spread of robotics technology across logistics and port infrastructure as a whole."
Professor Jang's research team (ROBOTICON Construction Robotics Research Lab) has been advancing autonomous driving and on-site operation technologies in unstructured environments for the past five years. They have expanded the application scope to various industrial sites such as construction sites, logistics infrastructure, road facilities, and vegetation maintenance.
