Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is constructing a disability support center in Imsil County using lottery funds.
The province announced on the 29th that it will establish a disability support center in Imsil-eup, Imsil County, on the site of the Ido-ri comprehensive sports stadium. The groundbreaking contract was signed on the 19th, and full-scale construction will begin with the goal of completion in December 2026.
This project was initiated to address the welfare blind spots in the Imsil area, the only area in the province where a disability welfare center has not been established. Until now, disabled individuals in Imsil County have had to travel to nearby cities and counties to access related services, causing inconvenience. Once the center opens, disabled individuals will be able to receive necessary services near their residences and establish a foundation to connect with local welfare resources.
The center will be built on a site area of 8,296 square meters, with a one-story above-ground structure covering 936 square meters. The total project cost is 6 billion won, with 1 billion won from lottery funds and 5 billion won from the county budget. The facility will include operational offices, four offices for disabled organizations, a sign language interpretation center, program rooms, and convenience facilities. After its establishment, the center plans to enhance support functions such as counseling and education for disabled individuals and improve convenience through coordination with local welfare services.
The project has been progressing step by step since the establishment of the basic plan in 2022, local finance investment review and site acquisition in 2023, and completion of detailed design in 2025. Although there were adjustments from the initial schedule due to changes in the county planning facilities and related permit procedures, all pre-administrative procedures have now been completed, and the construction phase has begun.
Yoon Hyo-seon, head of the Disability Welfare Policy Department of Jeonbuk Province, stated, "We will closely cooperate with Imsil County to manage the project schedule smoothly," and added, "We will thoroughly prepare for the center to serve as a hub for enhancing the rights and welfare of local disabled individuals."
