The Jeonju World Sound Festival Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Sound Festival Organizing Committee) has secured government funding of 360 million won for the '2026 Genre-specific Market Hub Support Project.'
Recently, the Sound Festival Organizing Committee finalized the decision budget of 360 million won for 2026, following the evaluation results of the '2025 Genre-specific Market Hub Support Project' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center (hereinafter referred to as the Arts Center), after receiving 450 million won in government funding last year.
This project, which aims to develop regional cultural and artistic balance by establishing major domestic festivals as performance art genre-specific market hubs, began last year. Festivals representing music, dance, theater, and traditional arts were selected, with the Sound Festival Organizing Committee being chosen as the festival representing traditional arts genres. They successfully executed the project after securing a total budget of 450 million won in 2025.
Through the first-year project evaluation, the Arts Center stated, "The Sound Festival Organizing Committee has laid the foundation for creating a domestic and international distribution market for traditional performing arts genres through initiatives such as the 'Sound NEXT' and other genre-specific market hub support projects." They emphasized that they pursued scalability through showcase operations, pitching sessions, and academic events linked to festivals in line with the scale-up concept.
Furthermore, it was explained that the project ensured diversity in the overall festival program, enhanced the presence of traditional arts, and yielded results such as the overseas tour achievements of the performance teams participating in the project.
An official from the Sound Festival Organizing Committee stated, "We will make various efforts to create a domestic and international distribution market for traditional performing arts genres in line with the purpose of this project." They added, "Through the 2026 Genre-specific Market Hub Support Project, we will make every effort to ensure that the traditional performing arts of the Sound Festival Organizing Committee fulfill their role as a distribution platform."
