The Jeonju World Sound Festival Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Sound Festival) appointed Choi Cheol, the Director of the 21st Century Hospital, as the new Chairman of the organizing committee during a general meeting of the committee held on the 21st.

This appointment process followed after the current Chairman Lee Wang-jun, who had led the festival for the past three years, announced the end of his term in October last year and went through a process of selecting a successor. Until the appointment, the Sound Festival maintained its existing structure to prevent any operational gaps and ensure continuity.

Choi Cheol, the newly appointed Chairman, is a medical doctor who graduated from the Jeonbuk University School of Medicine and currently serves as the Director of the 21st Century Hospital, having previously worked as a clinical professor of neurosurgery at the same university. He is recognized for his rich experience in the medical field and academia, as well as his involvement as an advisor to the Jeonju Traditional Culture Preservation Association and as a director of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Cultural Tourism Foundation, which has enabled him to build a network within the cultural and arts community and among local artists.

Choi Cheol, the new Chairman, stated, "The Sound Festival is a valuable cultural asset of Jeonbuk that embraces tradition, globality, and contemporaneity together," and expressed his commitment to respecting the achievements of the festival so far while strengthening the stability of the organization's operations and enhancing the substance of the festival to prepare for the next leap. He added, "I will do my best to make the festival a trusted event for artists, audiences, and the local community."

As the Sound Festival approaches its 25th anniversary in 2026, it is preparing for a new leap based on the artistic achievements and public values of the festival. With the appointment of the new Chairman, the plan is to further solidify the festival's identity, expand domestic and international artistic exchanges, and establish a stable operational foundation to faithfully continue its role as Jeonbuk's representative festival connecting the region with the world.
