Starting from January 26 next year, Jeonju City will dispatch four local university students as interns to the Asia-Pacific branch of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG ASPAC).
UCLG is an international organization with 140 countries and over 240,000 local governments as members worldwide, and UCLG ASPAC is headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia. Jeonju City has been active with 28 domestic member cities since 2018.
Since 2019, Jeonju City has been building its international cooperation foundation through an agreement with UCLG ASPAC for sending young interns. As part of this, four local youths will be dispatched to the Jakarta office for four weeks this year. The interns are expected to carry out tasks such as collaborating with international organizations, promoting Jeonju City's major policies overseas, and researching global policy trends. They will also engage in online promotional activities using the SNS account 'Global Team Jeonju.'
Kim Su-mi, head of international cooperation at Jeonju City, stated, "This will provide young people with an opportunity to experience the international stage and serve as a chance to promote Jeonju's city brand globally," adding, "We will continue to expand international cooperation for a sustainable global city, Jeonju."
